Gérald Genta drew it in a single night in 1971 on an urgent commission from Audemars Piguet, and in 1972 the first luxury steel sports watch was born, priced like a gold watch. The octagonal bezel with exposed screws scandalized purists of the era; today the "Jumbo" — nicknamed for being unusually large for 1972 — is one of the most coveted pieces on the secondary market.
